چکیده

We study the pattern dependences in 10 Gbit/s return-to-zero (RZ) transmitters and receivers. We describe a procedure to characterize and separate out the individual contributions from the transmitter and receiver to the pattern dependences in a 10 Gbit/s RZ system, and we validate the procedure experimentally using a transmitted pseudo-random bit string of length 2 1. 2006 Elsevier B.V. Designing and Constructing an Optical System to measure Continuous and Cuffless Blood Pressure Using Two Pulse Signals

Introduction Blood pressure (BP) is one of the important vital signs that need to be monitored for personal healthcare. Arterial blood pressure is estimated from pulse transit time (PTT). This study uses two pulse sensors to get PTT. The aim of this study was to construct an optical system and to monitor blood pressure continuously and without cuff in people with different ages. Materials and M...

Effects of Incident Angle and Distance on Visible Light Communication

Visible Light Communication (VLC) provides wireless communication features in illumination systems. One of the key applications is to recognize the user location by indoor illuminators such as light emitting diodes. For localization of individual receivers in these systems, we usually assume that receivers and transmitters are placed in parallel. However, it is difficult to satisfy this assumpt...

Space Laser Communications: Systems, Technologies, and Applications

Laser communication links in space are attractive alternatives to present-day microwave links. This tutorial describes the basic concept and the functions of an optical terminal on board a spacecraft. It points out the differences between free-space optical links on one hand and glass fiber systems and microwave directional links on the other hand. The requirements on data transmitters and rece...

Resonance Enhancement of a Monolithically Integrated Common Cavity Device

The demand for optical bandwidth continues to increase at an exponential rate [1]. In order to maximise the capacity of current network infrastructure, new varieties of optical transmitters and receivers are under development. Monolithic integration of optical components on a common substrate has the potential to satisfy demand due to its ability to reduce component size, power consumption, and...

OFDM Systems for Optical Communication with Intensity Modulation and Direct Detection

Intensity modulation and direct detection (IM/DD) is a cost-effective optical communication strategy which finds wide applications in fiber communication, free-space optical communication, and indoor visible light communication. In IM/DD, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), originally employed in radio frequency communication, is considered as a strong candidate solution to comba...
